Legislature’s Flawed Act Won’t Stop Wolf Vote
Michigan’s wolves should not be hunted this year despite the Michigan House of Representatives’ vote in favor of the unconstitutional Scientific Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act . Because the Act will only take effect next year, it provides no authorization for a hunt this year and does not nullify the two referendums on the ballot this November.
Keep Michigan Wolves Protected has committed to challenging the new Act in court.

What: Supporters of Keep Michigan Wolves Protected will hold a rally Wednesday, Aug. 27 in front of the State Capitol to urge members of the House of Representatives to vote NO on the so-called Scientific Fish & Wildlife Conservation Act. A NO vote on the initiative will put it on the November ballot with two competing referendum proposals so Michigan voters can determine important wildlife matters.

Michigan Newspapers Urge Lawmakers to Allow Voters to Settle Debate on Wolf Hunt
LANSING, MI - Three major newspaper groups - the Lansing State Journal, Battle Creek Enquirer and the statewide MLive Media Group - have urged the legislature to allow voters to determine the fate of wolf hunting in Michigan. In recent editorials, all three asked the legislature to send to the November 4th ballot an initiative giving the Natural Resources Commission authority to designate wolves and other protected species as game. The initiative would join two other referendums already on the ballot to overturn laws allowing wolf hunting.

Give Michigan Voters Final Word on Important Wolf Hunting and Wildlife Issues
In response to the Citizens for Professional Wildlife Management initiative submitting signatures for the November 2014 ballot, Keep Michigan Wolves Protected is urging lawmakers to allow the measure to go to the ballot and let voters decide on this and two other similar wolf hunting and wildlife issues. If the initiative is certified by the Board of State Canvassers, Michigan lawmakers have the option to pass it into law, making another end-run around the state’s voters and denying Michiganders the chance to voice their opinions.
